Vacman’s end of life starts a new era in 2FA
July 01, 2010
1st July 2010 marks the beginning of the ‘end of sale’ for Vasco’s Vacman Middleware 3.0 with it being discontinued on the 1st January 2011, however with every end there is a new beginning and in Vasco’s case that is IDENTIKEY Server 3.1.
What is IDENTIKEY?
IDENTIKEY Server 3.1 is the new authentication server from Vasco which includes:
- Out-of the box solution, Channel ready
- Easy to install, configure and administer
- Competitive pricing, Low TCO and fast ROI: fits into any RADIUS infrastructure
- Protects remote access to corporate network and business applications (OWA, CWI, Sharepoint)

What about Vacman Middleware Support?
The end of support date for Vacman is 1st January 2012, marking the official end of life for Vacman (I year after the end of sale date.)
During 2011 from a technical perspective, the product will enter ‘Maintenance Mode.’ This means that the maintenance offer for the product will be removed from the pricelist and customers will be unable to renewal this service. However the service will still be provided for existing customers until the end of support date.
During 'Maintenance Mode' the following conditions apply:
- VASCO Data Security will continue to provide ‘software maintenance’ support for a minimum of 12 months to those customers that have a valid maintenance contract for software products.
- During this time, the product will not be enhanced with new features or functions; only updates with critical bug fixes and minor changes may be released.
- VASCO Data Security will continue to provide ‘hardware maintenance’ support for a minimum of 36 months to those customers that have a valid Maintenance contract for hardware products.
So what does this all mean for existing users?
All current Vacman Middleware users will therefore have to upgrade to IDENTIKEY Server 3.1 if they want to keep being supported or wish to increase their user base after the end of sale date.
In the situations where the customer wants to migrate his/hers authentication platform from a
Vacman Middleware 3.0 towards IDENTIKEY Server 3.1, we can identify 2 scenario’s:
-
the customer wants to upgrade from a Windows Server 2003 to a Windows Server 2008
-
the customer wants to replace a WS2003/Vacman Middleware setup with a WS2008/IDENTIKEY installation.
In both cases, the procedure is similar: turn off the Vacman Middleware installation, perform
an AD schema extension, and enable the IDENTIKEY installation. It’s that simple!
